An issue came up today in our CI environment and I learned something new about maven profiles. Something that everyone who uses maven should know. Perhaps, like your environment, our project uses maven2 to build and we take advantage of multiple profiles (see our example here). A common use for profiles is to define new modules and properties. For example:
This profile is activated when you run mvn -P integration-tests install. But sometimes you want a profile on all the time. Maven profiles have the ability to be actived by default. To do this just do the following:<profiles><profile><id>integration-tests</id><modules><module>integration</module></modules><properties><app.port>8080</app.port></properties></profile>

Turns out that perhaps maven should have renamed it to activeByDefaultSometimes. Reading their documentation I learned something important about maven profiles:
"This profile will automatically be active for all builds unless another profile in the same pom is activated using one of the previously described methods. All profiles that are active by default are automatically deactivated when a profile in the pom is activated on the command line or through its activation config."So in my example, if I have more than one profile defined in my pom and I run that new profile, then my integration-tests profile is deactivated. For example, when I run mvn -P SecondProfile, the module and property defined in the integration-tests profiles are not available to my build. One trick to see which profiles are activated when running maven is to run mvn help:active-profiles.
In general I have never been a huge fan of profiles. They feel clumsy, clutter up the cmd line, and are not well known among your team. As their documentation states, "adding profiles to your build has the potential to break portability for your project". Instead of using Profiles, attach to known phases. For example, see my second example from this previous post. In this example, I use the maven-antrun-plugin to attach to the install phase. Now this will run anytime I run mvn install. No clumsy profile I have to memorize and run. Given that, I am not saying you should avoid Profiles all together. Just use them as a last resort.

I was just invited forklift by Jack to accompany her to Bohol, because she won the Panglao Trip for Two during our company s 65th anniversary last August. Being a kaladkarin, agad-agad naman akong pumayag! ehehe! libreng trip na yun eh! @_@ Nahiya naman ako di ba, so I was the one who made all the arrangements, (i.e., finalizing the date of the trip, getting our flight sched and all, coming up with an itinerary—kase yung free lang talaga sa prize na yun ay tix and accommodation at Panglao). forklift

It s my second time in Cebu, the first time was during college (part of our Management class requirement or something); forklift pero de-film pa yung litrato nun, kaya wala na kong mashadong kopya—kaya heto, na-tripan kong balikan yung mga dating napuntahan! :D

Pero annyare??! forklift Delayed ng mga around 30 minutes forklift yung paglapag ng eroplano forklift sa Tagbilaran airport, kase crowded ata nun sa runway! Hay ewan, paikot-ikot yung plane around Bohol habang inaantay ma-clear yung lalapagan. Kaya eto, aerial shots muna ng Chocolate Hills!!! :D
When we finally set foot at Tagbilaran Airport, we hurriedly ran our way to find a trike to take us to Tagbilaran Seaport; oh the hassle! Buti na lang, naka-backpack lang kame, madaling kumilos! ehehe! Soon enough, we found a trike, and after haggling with the driver, we agreed at a fair fare! Lam ko kase malapit lang ang seaport sa airport eh, so di pwedeng pa-loko sa driver! :D Caution: Be careful of those drivers that, knowing you are tourists, take advantage and overprice the fare!
Sabi na eh, malapit lang yung seaport sa airport..pero okay na rin yung P20 each na fare, TIP na lang sa driver! We were just in time for Weesam Ferry s trip to Cebu! Hooray! You may click this link to help you out in the scheduling of your trip! :D

Think about it - it takes me an hour to get to the nearest polling station and another hour to get back again, costing me both time and fuel. Considering that money and effort makes a contribution to the tea party of just 0.0001% of the vote, whats the point?
Republicans will also be wise enough not to bother voting for the same reason. Democrats are of course too stupid to understand statistics and theyll flock to the polls thinking their 0.0001% will make any difference.

In today’s connected world, the average person is exposed to as much data in a single day as folks in the 15th century encountered in their entire life.
We’re constantly connecting ourselves via phones, tablets, computers, and now, even our cars.
We all know that our internet-enabled devices can be hacked and our data can be compromised by cyber thieves, but the scary truth is that as our cars become more connected it means they can be attacked too.
In fact, BMW recently discovered and quickly fixed a security flaw in their vehicle remote keys that could have allowed hackers to easily gain access to 2.2 million vehicles worldwide. Even the government is starting to take notice of this increasing issue as well. Just last week, Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass) released a report about how vehicles are susceptible to hackers and how auto manufactures don’t have the necessary privacy protections in place to safeguard driver information.
As more light is shown on this issue, the question now becomes: Why is my car potentially vulnerable to hackers? And how do I protect myself?
Changing the Conversation
Unsurprisingly, most automakers are putting their energy into improving the entertainment and convenience value of automotive technology, while also focusing on the physical safety of the vehicle (crash test ratings, air bag deployment, seat belts, etc. – which is extremely important!) rather than digital security. Beyond this, there are a number of factors that have hindered auto manufacturers’ ability to put a stake in the ground when it comes to connected security:1. There are multiple parties involved in building a car.
The inherent nature of the third-party supply chain can make it difficult to have an effective and transparent discussion with all those involved to ensure security is fully considered. It’s also almost nearly impossible for outside security professionals to get face-time with auto designers who are tasked with combining different auto components.
2. Building cybersecurity into mechanical components is easier said than done.
It’s difficult to blend proper security connectivity into the mechanical aspects of automobile. The connected car is still in its infancy, but the car industry as a whole has been set in its ways for years. This means it is difficult for manufacturers to go back and retool the way they build cars to have security involved with the process.
3. Vehicles are built in a vacuum.
The infrastructure used in vehicles up to this point has not been prepped for the Internet of Things. Current manufacturers have been designing self-contained vehicles without considering how they are connected to the Internet.
4. Automobile software hasn’t caught up.
The ability to update software is a critical process for cybersecurity on any connected device – laptops, mobile devices, and even connected vehicles. Attackers and defenders are in a constant cycle of finding and patching vulnerabilities, and the lag between the two puts the consumer at risk; immediate patching on devices wherever they may be—with assurance that the patch hasn’t been tampered with over the air—is imperative.
5. Cash is king.
Cost is a constraint for automakers as security cannot be offered at an additional price to the end consumer. Automakers must absorb the cost of securing their vehicles’ hardware and software.
6. Security isn’t relegated just to the car.
Every organization providing transportation services that connect roadways, cars, and devices needs to protect their networks. For example, even traffic lights and toll lanes must be secured from tampering. If one component is hacked, all systems can be affected.
While ‘in the wild’ hacks have yet to affect the connected car industry, consumers can take steps to protect themselves by using caution and commons sense when operating their vehicle. Tips include becoming familiar with privacy settings both in the vehicle and on mobile devices that connect to it, setting appropriate security controls to protect confidential information, such as email, contacts, and payment features, and being aware of suspicious notifications, pop-ups, and other behaviors on the dashboard and infotainment system. Driving a connected car should be fun – and it is! – but it should also be smart.

The most astonishing thing for me in writing this piece was learning just how vulnerable modern automobiles are to high-tech attack. As much as I love car gadgetry, Id have to think twice about using my car as an integrated, cloud-connected "hub" for my digital life -- an objective many car companies and suppliers seem to be pushing toward. Researchers have already demonstrated the potential, if not yet the real-world threat, of vehicular mischief through on-board computers. I guess its worrying news for drivers, but a great development for PC antivirus companies looking to expand!
That said, I think the same advice applies as always: Enjoy the convenience that technology provides, but go in aware of the risks and how you can reduce your vulnerability.

Researchers have already demonstrated the potential, if not yet the real-world threat, of vehicular mischief through on-board computers. I guess its worrying news for drivers, but a great development for PC antivirus companies looking to expand!
That said, I think the same advice applies as always: Enjoy the convenience that technology provides, but go in aware of the risks and how you can reduce your vulnerability.

Modifying Google Translation Button to Open Translation in New Tab Window
The translation button from Google has proved to be very useful in most situation (by me), especially since the language detection was introduced. However, I feel that there is something lacking. The problem is that the translation generated replaces the current active window/tab while sometimes I prefer to have another window/tab open. The translation button itself is a JavaScript, so we can play with is just a little bit. Here is the original code for translation button (I use the code for translation into English):
In order to make the translation to be opened in a new window/tab, we just have to make a bit change in it:

Forbes has a great interview with Meg Whitman this week. In it, she talks about listening carefully to millennials in her organization. Heres an excerpt:
Whitman says “entitled is too strong a word” to define new graduates, but even that isn’t so bad. In fact, the impatience of today’s youth is useful at a $50 billion sales corporation like Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “They refuse to work on things that do not matter,” she says. She receives emails frequently from young hires complaining that a project they are working on isn’t going anywhere. That’s surprising, but it’s also useful. “You would be surprised how many projects we’ve killed because a 22-year-old says, ‘That’s stupid,’ ” Whitman told the audience. “It’s a little annoying honestly.”
Ive argued in the past that senior executives need to listen to young people. They hear about new trends, ideas, and perspectives from these people. Moreover, they often represent a key target market for their goods and services. Finally, as one executive told me, "They are stupid enough to tell me the truth." It made me laugh, but it was also a profound statement. He meant that these young people did not worry about offending the boss or losing their job. They were more willing to speak their mind, in a way that some older workers were not in his organization. Young people do not have the experience to always know the right answers on tough issues, but they bring a fresh lens to problems. You do not have to agree with them, or give them their way, but you can learn from them.

One flop has truly affected mega hero Saidharam Tej and it is none other than the flop show of "Thikka". Forget collections, but the rating given by many critics have disappointed this young hero, said some news.
When everyone is confused whether to believe this news or not, other day Saidharam hasnt attended the success meet of the film. So what to say now?
Definitely Saidharams absence at the success meet of Thikka is giving raise to doubts that the mega hero is indeed feeling bad with the bad result.
Well, thats common for any hero, but being his first flop Saidharam is taking it to heart. Cheer up man!!
